I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. - John 10:10b.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. - John 3:16.
Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. - John 5:24.
When does eternal life begin? When you think of eternity what comes to mind? Heaven? But Heaven is not where or when eternal life begins. Eternal life begins at the moment of our believing upon Jesus for our salvation. At that moment in time we have “passed from death into life.”
Emerson makes a statement, which appears to be true for most people. He says, “People are always getting ready to live but never living.” The psychologist William Marston confirmed that when he asked 3000 people, “What have you to live for?” He found that 94 percent of them were just enduring the present while waiting for something to happen.
As Christians many of us appear to be planning to really live only after arriving in Heaven. It is true that our quality of life will be many times better in our glorified bodies, however, Jesus came to give us life “more abundantly” not just in Heaven, but in the here and now.
How can you live the abundant life today? Try living like Jesus. As we begin to truly follow in His steps, we will experience the life eternal.
