Global Networked Society

Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous: seven angels having the seven last plagues, for in them the wrath of God is complete. - Revelation 15:1.
According to Gerald Levine the merger of AOL and Time Warner has accelerated the creation of a truly Globally Networked Society. How much the process has been accelerated and how far reaching the effects remain to be seen. But we know it is coming. The Internet has linked the whole world together but it is going to become even more pervasive. Every aspect of our lives will be affected. Fewer and fewer people of the world will be untouched by this global network.
I keep thinking this is it. This is as far as we can go with technology but technology keeps accelerating. My computer is like a dinosaur compared to the new ones out now. We have to wonder how far it will go? Will knowledge continue increasing at quantum speed or will some event occur which limits further increase? The seven last plagues of God in the Book of Revelation seem to be a candidate for such a catastrophic event. Prior to the seven last plagues the two witnesses are slain and their bodies are seen laying unburied by the entire world (Revelation 11:9). At the battle of Armageddon (Revelation 14:20) we see that technology apparently has crashed. The horses are splashed with blood even to their bridles. There are no tanks, planes, or automobiles mentioned.
The accelerating technological ability indicates we are living in the time of increased knowledge. How long before the end time events? No one knows but we are closer than ever before. With the increased knowledge and techno capabilities there is a tendency I believe for us to put out trust in those things. Those things, just like money, are temporary and can be taken away in a very short period of time.
There is only one permanent thing on which we can truly trust. The Bible closes out with one final great invitation for us to put our trust in what is really permanent and eternal: "'I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.' And the Spirit and the bride say, 'Come!' And let him who hears say, 'Come!' And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely (Revelation 22:16-17)."
