Greed

He who is greedy for gain troubles his own house, but he who hates bribes will live. - Proverbs 15:27.
We are used to being able to order pizza for home delivery and other items. Manhattan (New York) perhaps was the first to have large-scale delivery service for cocaine. Mainly small amounts were delivered to individuals at prearranged spots, bars, restaurants, and residences. It is estimated the deliveries were earning $11,000 per day. Someone posing as a livery cab driver would make the deliveries. Ten men have been indicted for their participation in the drug delivery service.
During the oilfield boom days of the late 70s and early 80s illegal substances were being used by many. Drugs (Along with other things.) were being used by some companies as bribes to gain jobs. I talked with one man several years after the fact that told me of his struggle. He said that he was given an opportunity to help buy a shipment of drugs, which would later be sold to oilfield workers. He agonized over his desire for money and what was right. He finally turned down the offer and knows he made the right decision. I also know of others who did decide to participate in the drug trafficking. Some were caught and sent to prison. Others were never arrested but all of them paid a heavy price for their greed.
Have you ever been tempted to do something illegal or clearly immoral for money? The truth is you may never be arrested or serve prison time but there are other costs. Those costs are even more severe. Greed will trouble your home. Greed will rob you of peace of mind. Greed will rob you of life.
