Good Friday
April 2, 1999By Ed Wrather

04.02.1999

For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. - Romans 5:10.

Some time ago, I cut out and saved, a Wizard of Id cartoon. The friar says to the king, "Happy Good Friday Sire!" The king says, "What's so good about it?" The friar answers, "It took an act of God but they finally found somebody willing to die for you." (Copyright Creators Syndicate Inc.)

As Jesus was nailed to the cross suffering and dying, the disciples must have thought, "What's so good about this?" For the followers of the Lord the crucifixion was the ultimate tragedy, the ultimate nightmare. Jesus had told them over and over again, what was to happen, but they did not comprehend until after His resurrection.

With the crucifixion, we see the ultimate in tragedy. With the resurrection, we see the ultimate in God's ability to bring good out of the bad (Romans 8:28). With the resurrection, there is no longer a body in a tomb. No, instead we have a Savior! With the resurrection, we have evidence that God is alive and well. We have evidence, that His resurrection power can transform the deadness of our own lives into eternal life. No wonder they began to call it "Good Friday!"

For some today may be a bad Friday. Your world may be falling apart. Today catch a vision of the love God has for you. He loved you so much, that He sent His only begotten son to suffer and die for you. No matter how bad it may be, God does have the power to bring good from the bad. He has done it before!

What a powerful message. God is ever present to those who believe, trust and obey.
