For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness. – 1 Thessalonians 4:7.

Yin Min Tai, a woman who lives in Fuzhou, Fujian Province of China, had the unpleasant experience of being SLIMED! When Lok Wan, the woman’s boyfriend, slowed to make a U-turn a cement truck following could not stop in time. The result was a load of cement flowing onto and into the car Yin Min was inside. Lok Wan was able to escape from the vehicle before the cement forced its way inside, but Yin Min was trapped. She was covered in cement and it took rescuers 40 minutes before they were able to pull her out of the vehicle. After rescuers were able to wash the cement slime off of Yin Min they surprisingly found her to only have very minor injuries. 

Can you imagine being completely covered with sticky icky heavy slimy cement? Can you imagine being trapped in that slime for 40 minutes? What would have happened if the slimy cement had not been removed? The cement would have begun to dry, and to harden. For the woman, it would have become increasingly harder to move, perhaps even to breathe, until all movement ceased; causing death. 

The physical effect of slimy cement covering a person is similar to the spiritual effect of the filthy evil slime of the world. What is the slime of the world? In the time of Noah, the earth was filled with wickedness and violence; the thoughts of all except for Noah and his family were “only evil continually (Genesis 6:5 NKJV).” Another example of the world’s slime the Bible gives us is of the homosexuality in Sodom (Genesis 19:4-5). The Bible speaks of those covered in the world’s slime in Romans 1:28-32 NKJV in this way: “…God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.”

The world is continually trying to slime us through every kind of media; from television to Internet the slime is raining down upon us. In addition, those who have been slimed are continually trying to slime everyone else because they want everyone to be like them…covered in slime. The more slime we have in our lives the harder it is to hear God, the harder it is to do anything for Him. The more slime we have in our lives meaningful spiritual activity decreases until we have turned completely away from God.

How are we to cope with this flood of slime the world continually pours out upon us? Colossians 3:5-7 NKJV tells us, “Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.” Colossians 3:2 NKJV says, “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” Romans 12:1-2 NKJV says, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind….” In 2 Corinthians 6:17 we are commanded to, “…Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.”

Is your life covered in the slime of this world? If so, and you want to be cleansed 1 John 1:9 tells us how to be cleansed, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Then, turn off and turn down the world’s immoral messages and instead fill your life with good things like God’s Word; think about good things as we are told in Philippians 4:8; and fill your life up with, “whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure….”
