Number 1

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. - Matthew 6:33 NKJV.
So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight. - 2 Corinthians 5:6-7 NKJV.
This morning I received two phone calls on my cellphone from the number “1”. I answered both calls, said “hello” but there was no reply. I did attempt to return the call and was given an error message by an automated voice. I thought that perhaps my son or one of my close friends had tried to call me. However, no one that I contacted had attempted to call this morning.
As I was considering who or what the number “1” was that had called me, it occurred to me that God should be first above all things. Now, I don’t believe that God actually tried to call my cellphone, but what if He had? What if God did routinely ring us up on our cellphones along with an occasional text message? That would be a game changer, wouldn’t it? Imagine, you are busy with your normal routine when your cellphone rings, it’s Number 1 again. When you answer, Number 1 asks, “Why didn’t you talk to Me this morning?” Before you can answer He’s gone, because Number 1 has a few more calls to make. Or, you are just about to commit your favorite sin, and your cellphone buzzes. It’s a text from Number 1 which says, “Don’t do it!” Or, you’re praying about what decision to make about a critical life choice and just at the providential moment your cellphone rings, it is Number 1 calling to tell you which is the right choice.
For reasons only God knows we walk by faith and not by sight while we are physically alive upon this earth. The incredible thing is as born again believers we are not walking alone; because “…you are the temple of God and …the Spirit of God dwells in you (1 Corinthians 3:16).” We are to see while upon this earth, with eyes of faith. Romans 10:16 tells us how we can improve our spiritual vision: “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Did you take a few moments this morning to visit with Number 1? Did you pray and read His Word? Have you put Him first today?
