Love Never Fails

Love never fails. And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. – 1 Corinthians 13:8a; 13 NKJV.
And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. – 1 John 4:16 NKJV.
The Lord is righteous in her midst, He will do no unrighteousness. Every morning He brings His justice to light; He never fails, But the unjust knows no shame. – Zephaniah 3:5 NKJV.
Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness. – Lamentations 3:22-23 NKJV.
Last night, I watched as the Wallendas walked the high wire in Times Square. Although they had a safety harness this time, I cannot imagine the nerve defying courage they must have to attempt to walk the high wire ten stories above the ground. There was something Nik Wallenda said before the attempt that grabbed me. He said, “The high wire has never failed me.” Then, I think he said, “What I do on the wire depends on me.” It reminded me that in this life God’s love will never fail us.
The truth is that in contrast to God’s unfailing love our human love does sometimes fail. In our humanity we can never be perfect. We walk the high wire of life trying for perfection, but we fall at times missing the mark. Thank God! that if we know Jesus as our Savior, we have a safety rope that catches us as we plummet downward. Because the compassions of our God “fail not.” “They are new every morning.”
There has only been one perfect person who has walked upon this earth, Jesus Christ. We are told in Hebrews 4:15, “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.” Jesus Christ became the perfect sinless sacrificial lamb as 1 Peter 3:18 says, “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.”
Those of us who know Jesus as our personal Savior have a safety rope as we walk the high wire of life. Sadly, there are billions of people who are up there on the high wire of life with eternity below who have no safety rope. When they sin, there can be no forgiveness because they have never received Christ Jesus as their Savior. Their high wire act will someday come to an end because “it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment (Hebrews 9:27)”
Do you know someone who is walking the high wire of life without a safety rope? Please, before it is eternally too late, tell them about Jesus!
