The Soft Touch
February 11, 2020By Ed Wrather

A couple of months ago we had to buy a new washer and dryer, because the repairman said they were not repairable. Actually, he said he could order the parts; but they might or might not be delivered, and if they were, it could take weeks to receive them. The washer and dryer were 12 or 13 years old, so maybe it was time for some new ones.

Fast forward a couple of days and we have our new washer and dryer. Of course, everything is electronic now. You push a button, and the electronic display lights up so you will know what level of wash or dry that you will use. Jeanie did not have any problems with using the washer or dryer. However, for me it was a different story. I pushed on the buttons, and pushed on the buttons, but nothing happened. Jeanie seemed to have the magic touch! Finally, after about a month (Maybe more!) I decided the problem was that Jeanie had a softer touch than I did. To operate the washer and the dryer you do not actually press on the buttons. You barely touch the buttons and viola! Through the marvels of modern technology, the machines start up! You know, I think that technology may be driving me crazy….

Thankfully, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, has a soft touch. 2 Peter 3:9 says, The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. The Lord loves everyone, and He says in Luke 19:10, “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.Jesus also says in John 10:10b, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. Jesus came to this earth with a soft touch, a touch of love. He did not come to destroy, or to cause unnecessary pain. He came to give life, and that life more abundant. As we are told in John 3:17, For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. That’s a soft touch!

Jesus says in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.Jesus is saying that He has a soft touch! As God tells us in John 3:16 He loves us and wants only the best for us. Jesus came to this world to give us life, life abundant beyond our imaginations, beyond our ability to comprehend. Open your heart to the soft touch of your Lord and Savior. Give Jesus access to every area of your life, and watch as His soft touch brings life, light, and transformation into being more and more conformed to His image.
