Some Things Don't Change Much
February 4, 2021By Ed Wrather

On our farm there is a building called the “wash house” and that is where my grandmother washed clothes, butchered hogs and it had a beehive in the walls. Their farm was totally self-sufficient with large garden, chickens, hogs, and cattle. When I was a boy I loved to go out to the “wash house” because there was an old crank phonograph there with many old thick 78rpm records. I loved to play those old records and one of my favorite songs was one called “Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road.” These old records were from back in the 1920s and 30s.

Things haven’t changed much as far as the dead skunks go. When we drive back and forth from our home to a nearby city on country roads, we usually see two or three dead skunks on the road. If you are driving late at night, it is not unusual to see a live skunk just standing in the middle of the road. Why they do that I don’t know. But some things haven’t changed much in ninety to a hundred years.

I know that my grandparents would be shocked though at the things that have changed in the last hundred years. They would be shocked by the blatant immorality that we are constantly bombarded with by all kinds of media. They would be shocked by the level of immorality among our governmental leaders and in every area of government. They would be shocked at the complete disregard for our constitution and for the laws of our country by our leaders.

The solution today is the same as it was during Old Testament times for the evil that we see everywhere. God told Solomon in 2 Chronicles 7:13, When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people…. We certainly have a terrible pestilence that has spread across our land and the entire world. In a way, you could look at the bad leaders that we have as a plague that has come upon us. God gives Solomon the solution which I believe is still the solution for us today in 2 Chronicles 7:14, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

To rid ourselves of the evil that has spread across our land and the dead skunks giving out evil decrees in the middle of D. C. and the other capitals of our world the answer is still the same: 2 Chronicles 7:14. Some things don’t change that much!
