Having a Dumb Attack
February 23, 2022 • By Ed Wrather
And David’s heart condemned him after he had numbered the people. So David said to the Lord, “I have sinned greatly in what I have done; but now, I pray, O Lord, take away the iniquity of Your servant, for I have done very foolishly.” – 2 Samuel 24:10 NKJV.
Ever since the trucker convoy and protest in Ottawa, Canada many have tried to support the truckers. After emergencies powers were granted to the Canadian government resulting in the trucks and protestors being cleared out, the anger about the situation has grown.
One of those people upset about the situation was a 20-year-old man living in Akron, Ohio. The unidentified man decided to strike back and called in a bomb threat to Ottawa. There was a problem, however, since he called law enforcement in Ottawa, Ohio and not Ottawa, Canada. He has been arrested with pending charges. Capt. Brad Brubaker of the Putnam County Ohio Sheriff’s Office made this statement about the cause of the 20-year-old’s actions and said that the man was suffering from a “20-year-old dumb attack.” (Lima Ohio dot com 02.10.22; Daily Mail 02.23.22)
I don’t know if you have ever had a “dumb attack” but many of us have. Humans have been afflicted with this malady of having “dumb attacks” ever since the Garden of Eden.
Adam and Eve eating the fruit of the tree that God had specifically told them not to eat – it was a dumb attack.
Cain killing his brother in a fit of jealousy – it was a dumb attack.
Some of the Hebrews rising up against the God given authority of Moses – it was a dumb attack.
King Saul deciding to make the holy offering himself and not to wait for the prophet – it was a dumb attack and cost him the kingdom.
Jonah heading the opposite direction instead of going to witness to the wicked Ninevites – it was a dumb attack and Jonah can tell you it was really dark in the belly of a big fish! Probably smelly too….
Ananias and Sapphira lying to the apostles about the amount of money they received from the sale of property – it was a dumb attack, and they went directly from this earth to Heaven above as they were struck dead on the spot.
King David who had more than one “dumb attack” but was still a man after God’s own heart shows us what to do if we do have one of those attacks. What do you do? You fall to your knees and confess to God that what you did was dumb, stupid, foolish and ask His forgiveness. It worked for David, and if we are serious about it the Lord will forgive us too.
